KIMONO REBORN is a cultural and sustainable awareness project that upcycles beautiful and neglected vintage kimono for use by turning them into modern fashion items.

Design notes: The material of this jacket is 40-years vintage kimono but of excellent quality. The main design is composed of several folding fans and various kinds of flowers. Each fan has an expanded outward shape, which symbolizes prosperity, expansion, and good luck. They contain meaningful elements of nature such as flowers, maple leaves, and waves.
The design also features a motif of ‘Goshoguruma’ (御所車), a carriage that was used in Heian period (794-1185) for imperial and aristocratic families. This traditional motif is often used for a formal style kimono. All design motifs are connected by plum tree’s blanches that give a certain rhythm to the entire design image. This piece is a gallery of Japanese art!
