KIMONO REBORN is a cultural and sustainable awareness project that upcycles beautiful and neglected vintage kimono for use by turning them into modern fashion items.

Design notes: This kimono reminds us of the autumn when slightly cold wind flows, caused red leaves to dance. We believe the leaf is trident maple (トウカエデ), which is one of the Japan native plants. The way an artisan made the leaves point out towards different directions, brings liveliness to the kimono even more. It is a simple design yet detailed kimono fabric.This kimono fabric, called ‘Chirimen’ (縮緬), is a traditional Japanese crepe. The Chirimen weaving technique keeps the weft thread tighter than the warp thread during the weaving process. That gives the fabric unique fine wrinkles on the surface with a smooth and pleasant texture.
